Wishing you luck Julia! Your post resonated sooo much for me today. I am---almost wrote "want to be", but AM---a cozy mystery writer. After a health scare last year, my biggest wish, if I made it, was to publish. I'm on my way! I've sent my manuscript to a publishing house (I know the acceptance rates are low but I went for it) and also my manuscript is being edited too. I'm reading up on the MASSIVE amount of information about "first time authors" and the literally dozens of things you can do "wrong". I have crap self esteem. But, I believe in my characters and that I can do this!! (Sorry so long.) Thanks for all you do and for creating such a great community.
I don't know how you continue to top my favorite content from other favorite newsletters you have written but here you go again!! I feel like I'll literally be lifting with you in spirit...as my coach says (for deadlifting anyway)..."Just Pick It Up".
Cheers and good luck to a great competition Julia! I hope you have a blast. Your post really resonated with me today. For some reason, wanting has seemed like a stretch too far in my head these days, so I appreciated hearing Grace's advice that it is actually okay.
That powerlifter photo is BAD ASS. Best of luck for the competition and have so much fun!! Lifting is the best, I do it all the time and always look forward to the next session. I tried learning to ride a motorcycle a couple years ago and was hot on the whole thing for about 2 months before I totally lost my nerve. So I could do it if I *had to* but probably not for me after all. Next, I'm gonna learn all about horticulture this summer so I can make my witch garden even witchier.
I ran my fourth half marathon in two years in November. I set two goals — a B goal, that would be a PR, and an A goal, that would be a super-PR. I hit my B goal — and because I had two goals, I still hit one! I was thrilled! I had such a great, joyous, and powerful race. It’s a thrill to work hard for something and to want it — and to enjoy the journey as much or more than the result. Wishing you all the best luck in your competition!
Julia! Tearing up reading this. It resonated so deeply. I’m so proud of you for knowing what you want and also being able to verbalize it and also having maybe even a little bit of confidence that you can get there. Each of these is such a huge hurdle. Sometimes, I think as writers, it can be easier to write goals down, but there’s something about saying something out loud that can be so jarring. So much more real. Like the words are out there! I’m cheering you on for the competition - I hope you reach your goal and I’m glad you want it!!
In the meantime, I’ll keep wanting to find an agent and get my book out there. And I will work on finding some confidence too. ❤️
you are so right about the writing vs saying — big difference!!! I want to hear more about your book!!? will you email me and let me know more about it?
Best best best of wishes for the comp Julia!!

Wishing you the best in the competition! I think you're a true WINNER in all ways!

Horticulture! Yes! 🩷
Going to share Grace's wisdom with my 17 year old daughter so we can remind each other that it's ok to want and go after whatever we want!!!
Awww yay! Love the idea of the two of you reminding each other :)
Thanks for the powerful message, Julia. And I hope you thoroughly enjoy the competition and lift beyond your dreams!
Thank you Pam!!

Love the idea of abundant goals - so great. And thank you!
I love Grace's response - we can all use a little more of that in our lives. Good luck at the competition!
