I’ve hinted at the following, but I am so excited to be able to finally tell you the TITLE + SHOW YOU THE COVER OF MY BRAND NEW COOKBOOK!!!!!
And I’m sharing it here with you all before I share it anywhere else like social media…
Without further ado….
What Goes with What contains, just as the subtitle says 20 charts, 100 recipes and endless possibilities.
I’m so especially excited to share it with you all here first because this book really was born here in this newsletter. In January 2023 I shared a formula for a one pot rice meal that included some notes and ideas via chart form….
I got such a positive response that I started sharing more charts. First up were two soup charts, followed by salad charts, a chart for salad dressings, one for cornbread, and SO MANY MORE.
Many of you told me you’d buy a book of charts. So….I made one.
What Goes with What has TWENTY charts, each with five examples of whatever formula I lay out in the chart, and then all HUNDRED recipes to accompany the charts.
I am really hoping the charts help you feel able to manage the infiniteness of cooking. I hope they let you see the dots that connect everything in the kitchen so you can cook like I do: feeling relaxed, calm and confident.
Like my previous cookbooks, this one is extremely home cook friendly as I am a home cook who writes for other home cooks. I avoid lots of cleanup. I want things that don’t take forever to make. I want to make as few trips to the store as possible. I want all of this for you. I want cooking to feel surmountable, a sustainable part of your day-to-day life.
Like Simply Julia (my last book), this one also contains a few essays so if you come to cookbooks for the writing and not so much the cooking, I’ve got you covered. This book also includes a PHOTO OF EVERY SINGLE RECIPE! Which is something I’ve always wanted to include in my books and guess what…I took nearly all of the photos myself! Which was a brand new thing for me and I had such a fun time figuring it out.
This book was also a family affair. My parents designed it and I got to work closely with them to make sure everything felt just right.
And….the book is officially available for pre-order!
Bear with me while I explain why pre-ordering is important (for me and for all writers whose work you are thinking of purchasing):
Every single book sold before the book comes out (a.k.a. pre-ordered) counts towards the first week of sales — this counts BIG time for lists like the NYT best sellers list which I have such mixed and complicated feelings about, but it is a nice moon to shoot for, especially since it helps sets a precedent for other queer authors/authors who don’t have the backing of a TV network or anything like that.
Pre-ordering is like a bat signal for bookstores — if your local, independent bookstore gets even just *1* order in for a book that hasn’t come out yet, they will most likely flag it and order a few copies. . . this is a big deal!
Pre-ordering helps determine marketing/publicity opportunities + budgets…again, this is a big deal!
Most importantly, you get your copy the day the book comes out! You’ve waited long enough!
As a thanks for being a part of my newsletter, you can get 15% off your preorder of What Goes With What at Bookshop.org. Just use code LOVEBOOKSELLERS at checkout (valid through May 24th).
If you’d like a signed or personalized copy, I’ll be doing those as always through Oblong Books, my local independent bookstore. This is where to order from if you want me to sign a copy or to make one out specifically to you or anyone in your life (signed cookbooks = great birthday/holiday/anniversary gifts and they also = great ‘just thinking of you’ gifts etc.).
If you pre-order a signed copy from Oblong, you might also get a little special something which I can’t tell you more about right now because it’s all up in the air but I think it’s going to happen and it’s going to be great….sorry to be so vague!!!
I will keep you all posted on book events, etc. as we make those plans….but for now, just a big, hearty THANK YOU from me to you.
More specifically: thank you for reading this newsletter where I was first inspired to start making these charts. Thanks for continuing to read it. Thanks for telling me you wanted the charts to be a book. Thanks for pre-ordering your copies to help support my work and support local independent bookstores at the same time. Thanks for being invested in cooking at home.
xooxoxoxo Julia
LOVE LOVE LOVE! But I clicked on the link and tried to order from Bookshop using the code in the newsletter and was told that I need to add an applicable product before applying this coupon code. Am I missing something?
I cannot wait for this! Congrats!
