I am tearing up reading another beautiful newsletter from you Julia! I have SO much fun in your classes - I've ALWAYS had a hard time carving out space and time for myself as I've errored on putting others first (for 57 years) and by necessity had a lot of responsibilities as a single mom so that got ingrained as habit even though my twins are young adults on their own now. Those 90 mins on Sundays not only allow me to learn and get creative but there is a double bonus as a meal is made for me, my husband, his son ..and usually leftovers too! Even better if I partake in the cocktail making at the beginning of class to loosen up any confidence in the kitchen. MOST of all I want to thank you for all of your vulnerability, transparency, and content about relationship to our bodies. I believe knowing you these few years through your cookbooks, articles, newsletter and these classes has really helped me BEGIN the process of loving me exactly as I am and embracing new challenges (currently adoring weight lifting with a coach in a gym that only allows women or those transitioning - woohoo!) .From the bottom of my heart and my cast iron pan.... THANK YOU JULIA and to Grace who I know is a big part of the reason you are so successful in what you offer to the world! xoxo. Christine
Oh christine!!!! You are absolutely one of the people I’m so thrilled to have connected with through class. Thank you for these kind words and letting us all know what the classes have meant for you. Means a lot!!!
I've taken a couple of your Sunday classes and I had SUCH a wonderful time. I have continued to make those particular meals a number of times (and the hummus even more often). I'm happy to say I was already gifted a class for the holidays and I plan on joining you again in January!
Excited to see your take on 'the week ahead classes'. I have been a personal chef for about 15 years and have taught cooking classes myself, including meal prep classes. I have really enjoyed your classes - I always learn something new. (also a fan of BTB and never thought to scoop it out with the mini whisk! Brilliant!) The online forum in your own kitchen really suits you.
Hi Julia - Some time ago I wrote you regarding your (dad's) Tex-Mex Meatloaf. I was planning a side which called for a different temperature. You kindly answered my question. This was very helpful. One doesn't always choose recipes which all call for the same oven temperature. Perhaps you have some hints or guidelines for adjusting temperature? I hope to attend another class very soon! Sincere thanks and best wishes for a joyful holiday season and Happy New Year.
I remember your question! I would say in general, 25 degrees this way or that for most non-baked goods (cakes, cookies, etc) is not going to make a big difference. If you're baking something like a cake or cookie and want to cook something along with it that's at a slightly different temperature, I'd defer to the cake or cookie temperature...hope that helps!
I loved that Bon Appetit piece- I just read it for the first time when you shared it. I'm a queer person who works as a therapist for primarily queer clients and we talk a lot about queer spaces and safety and where we feel belonging and I loved your perspective. Excited to join a class again soon!
So moving and inspiring to read this - your newsletters are always inspiring, and this one feels especially so. Very very glad you've found this thing - teaching from home - that makes you happy and is also a profound gift - I have *loved* the classes of yours I've taken and look forward to more in 2023. Especially excited about more cooking & eating without judgment classes, and for the week ahead classes - fantastic idea and will be super helpful. Your warmth and open-heartedness and integrity are a blessing, and you've become such an important part of my moving (sometimes very slowly, but still!) toward greater self-compassion and self-acceptance and freedom. Thank you thank you thank you Julia!
no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon, than to be with Julia...
xoxxo - Dad
Awww thanks dad 🥰

oh and I think you should find a way to sell your mom's illustrations of the classes - there is something there - maybe to further benefit charities?
Fun idea!!
