Julia -- I am a big fan. I bought your new book on Sunday and read it cover to cover. I'm looking forward to trying out *so* many of the recipes. I became a subscriber today because I wanted to do something POSITIVE to counteract all of the negativity in this country. I love and appreciate your positive and nurturing messages.
So in light of, uh... *things*... I deleted social media apps off my phone for the time being, just to clear my mind and find my peace and happiness in my own little bubble. I say that because I'm commenting here, randomly, to share something with you. I'd normally post on Instagram, but yeah... see above.
Last week, on Halloween night, I had to go to the hospital for an appendectomy. I'm fine, thankfully! But I'm working from home this week to recover. And for the past few days, I've been making my way through your sandwich recipes in What Goes With What. So far I've made the BLT (with banana peppers instead of tomatoes), the cold roast chicken sandwich, and today I'm doing the ham sandwich. They've all been so delicious and so wholesome and have weirdly brought me a lot of joy in these troubled times.
So, thank you for giving me something to look forward to as I amble around my house this week, answering emails and trying to avoid lifting anything over ten pounds (which, sadly, includes one of my cats). You and your work are appreciated! Take care!
Julia! I came back after lunch to say that the ham sandwich was the best yet! The garlic mayo AND the dressed lettuce is just absolutely genius. It's been a tough week, and this ham sandwich is making today a little brighter. Thank you!
marcus! i'm so sorry about your appendix and so delighted to hear that the book and the sandwiches are offering solace. deleting social media sounds very smart and I commend you! thanks for sharing this all here and i'm especially happy you like that ham sandwich as much as I do! I know it's a few steps, but I think they're all worth it!??! xooxox
I watched your segment while I ate breakfast - you were a star! What a moment of delight on a stressful day.
Thank you Wendy!!!
Reading this at 8:35 a.m. Just in time to catch you on GMA!
Awww yay!
I wish they'd given you more time. You were terrific.
