I love this! I'm a lunch person - I'm eating lunch right now, actually. When I was a kid, I always asked my dad (he worked in an office) what he ate for lunch, it was usually the first question I asked when he got home each night. Why was I so curious? I doubt he ate exciting lunches. But I do make myself lunch everyday, sometimes it's simple, other times it's an elaborate production. I just don't understand people who skip lunch! They're truly missing-out.
Oh, today was breakfast for lunch…or brunch. Pancakes with the best Maine maple syrup, a local heirloom apple (Arlet), and some Greek yogurt with pumpkin swirled in. And the rest of my coffee. I tend to alternate savory lunches and sweet lunches. Today’s was very sweet & cozy! 🍁
Sorry I missed this when you posted! Your pancake lunch sounds amazing. We actually had pancakes for dinner last night and I’m thinking of having the leftovers today for lunch and, inspired by you, maybe I’ll sauté some apples to put on top and dollop with yogurt…YUM!
I love lunch, too! So excited for this new iteration of the newsletter. Today for lunch, I am having the late summer khichri from a local Indian place called Pondicheri. It’s got a channa dal and brown rice stew with a tomato soup, with a whole lot of greens and herbs. It is SO good, and sort of tricks us Houstonians (85 degrees today 🥵) into thinking it’s fall. I’m taking my copy of Ina’s new memoir with me to get a bit of reading done while eating. (Left a job on Friday, with a new job starting on Monday. So I’m free to do as I please this week!) Bummed your tour won’t be making its way down south, but so excited to get my copy in the mail in two weeks!
wow your lunch sounds so delicious!!!!!!!!!!! and best of luck with the new job!!!!! hope this is an exciting chapter. and definitely hope to get back to Texas sometime in the future :)
I love hearing about lunch, even though half of the week I barley get to eat it (I'm a floor nurse in a hospital, I barely get time to pee, let alone sit and eat!). The first question I ask my littles when I pick them up is, How was lunch? even though I know what it was. I'm at home today, so my lunch was leftovers-- vegetable barley soup and a baked potato. Now I'm eyeing the pumpkin crisp on the counter for dessert, but might have that as a snack later.
Today , for lunch I had Julia’s More Vegetable than rice Fried Rice. I discovered a new short grain brown rice that I really like. Tomorrow , I will have leftover Sticky Tofu with peanuts (another Julia creation). Both are very tasty!
This new lunch chapter sounds great, there's so much to explore with it. And Women & Children First in Chicago is fabulous (as is Monica Eng) - I am definitely planning to attend. Can't wait!
This is incredibly exciting and I'm looking forward to getting two doses of KCCO in my inbox each week :). Otherwise - impatiently waiting for my copy of WGWW!!!!
Lunch! The only meal I eat by myself and therefore the only one where I always get what I want! Yesterday was leftover mac & cheese mixed with leftover roasted broccoli, nuked till hot. Delicious. Today I didn't get a "by myself" lunch, but I got to go OUT for lunch with my husband. Woohoo! I got the two tender + spicy fries combo at Jay Birds hot chicken. They forgot my extra pickles. SAD FACE.
I, too, am not very patiently waiting for my copy of the new book!

Ooh Pondicheri is such a gem! My sister lives in Houston so I was lucky enough to eat there on a visit a few years ago. Good luck with the new job!
