What I was little, I ate saltine crackers in a bowl with warm milk and sugar on them. We called it “crackers and milk”. I’m not sure if was a Depression thing, but I think so.

Not that I lived during the Depression! My gram and mom both made it for me.

Ants on a log - upgraded - is to replace the raisins with goji berries for red ants on a log! Ha ha. My mom used to put cream cheese in the celery cavity, it’s more savory but very delicious. To this day, I eat a snack mix nearly every afternoon with some dry cereal, nuts, dried fruit and dark chocolate chips. It’s a hodge-podge and never the same combo twice. Travels well, too.

Hummus with crudites or toast or Wasa crackers with a little giardiniera on top. Or cottage cheese sprinkled with hot sauce also with crudites or toast or some sort of cracker. Or (and this is very specific) a little bowl of Costco dried cherries, Costco marcona almonds, and Guittard milk chocolate chips.

I live for the specificity

I like throwing some frozen berries on yogurt or ice cream with some nuts or granola or broken up cookies (like Biscoff) for crunch. I’ve been trying making various kinds of curds lately, so if there’s some in the fridge I’ll add that in as well. It really hits the spot on Very Hot days (which is most days lately).

Another recent favorite is plain potato chips (ones with ridges work best) dipped in salsa with some lemonade on the side to help with the salt and heat :)

Bananas, cashews, and plain yogurt (all separate, but if you'd like to combine them, go for it) is a really nice snack.

My very favorite snack ever is a peeled orange, sliced very thin, and pistachios in the shell. If you don't feel that fancy you can supreme and/or just peel the orange.

So many things... lately cereal with fruit, nuts, and milk, cottage cheese with tomatoes and everything spice, cottage cheese with melon, Scandinavian crisp bread (basically big crunchy crackers from Trader Joe's) with Laughing Cow/other spreadable cheese and everything spice or jam or hot honey or something. Can never go wrong putting peanut butter on something. Snacks are the best part of the late-afternoon slump!
