SEVEN QUESTIONS
Last week I started a new series for this newsletter called ‘Seven Questions.’ It’s a simple Q&A using the ‘Seven Meaningful Conversation Prompts’ from the back of Simply Julia. illyanna Maisonet helped me kick it off and this week, in celebration of Mother’s Day, I thought I would ask my own mother to answer the questions. Thanks, Mom!!!!
What was your favorite thing to eat growing up? Did you request something special for your birthday?
A bowl of sour cream with a sliced banana on it, topped with a sprinkle of sugar. I never requested anything special for my birthday, but my parents owned a bakery and brought cupcakes to class with each students name on it. It was very special.
When was the last time someone surprised you with a random act of kindness? And/or when was the last time you surprised someone with one?
This past Sunday, I was going to get a wash and blowout at a local salon and everything was running late and the woman before me let me take her place. I was so grateful. At that same salon, about a month ago, as I was leaving, a woman of about 85 or so was having a haircut. She was new to the area and didn't drive and calling an Uber or taxi was getting complicated for her, so I told her I'd drive her back to her assisted living residence. I did. It was a "welcome" to the neighborhood. Hair salons can be magical places.
What’s the most meaningful gift you’ve ever received? And/or the most meaningful one you’ve given?
Anything made by a child, especially mine, no matter what age they are.
What do you see when you close your eyes and picture your “happy place”?
A beautiful beach with a blue sky, in the fall.
What’s the most recent finish line you crossed?
Getting taxes done.
If you were in charge of a large sum of money for your community, how would you distribute it?
Affordable, safe housing is what is needed.
Who is someone you’d like to write a thank-you note to? What would you say?
To my parents for having the courage to come to this country. They took a chance that provided us possibilities that are amazing. I never had the wherewithal to say it while they were alive.
