My June + July Class Schedule
including a very special, sliding scale queer + trans pride class in July :)
Hi everyone,
I wanted you all to be the first ones to know that my June + July teaching schedule is live. After July 10th, I’ll be taking a summer break from teaching until classes return in September (just like school!).
Classes are about 90 minutes long and I cook everything with you and show you how I do everything, including all the little moments that never quite come through in a cookbook. Classes include a PDF with recipes + a grocery list (organized by the the sections of a grocery store!) + a recording of class (great if you can’t make it live or want to revisit something). You can ask me anything during class. I used to dread Sundays, but now Sunday afternoons are my favorite time of the week.
All of my class info (including FAQs) is at juliaturshen.com/classes, but here are the menus/notes for all of the ‘Sundays with Julia’ classes taking place in June + July:
June 12th : A Happens-to-be-Totally-Vegan Italian Feast! [Prosecco + Peaches / Penne Arrabiata with Garlicky Breadcrumbs/ Roasted Caponata / Chocolate-Espresso Wake Up! Cake] / sign up here!
June 19th: All of My Dad’s Favorite Things…with My Dad!) [Lemon Shandies / Hot Do(u)gs! / Maple + Mustard Baked Beans / A Lesson for Homemade Sauerkraut / Peach Upside Down Skillet Cake] / sign up here!
June 26th: A Perfect Summer Dinner (including Tips on Grilling!!) [Spiked Iced Tea / Grilled Flank Steak + Corn with Chimichurri/ Blue Cheese Wedge Salad with Pickled Shallots / Blueberry Crumble] / sign up here!
July 3rd: A Really Fun Tex-Mex Meal!! [Tequila Mojitos / Jalapeño Popper Chicken / Homemade Refried Pinto Beans / Key Lime Pie Bars] / sign up here!
July 10th: A Special Queer + Trans Pride Brunch [Hibiscus Rum Punch / Grace’s Favorite Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits / Tofu Scramble] / sign up here!
This class will be a chance for queer + trans people, and the people who actively support our rights, to gather from all over the world in our home kitchens at the same time and just make some food together + celebrate ourselves and our community. We will honor our queer + trans ancestors and talk about how to center joy in our experience as queer + trans people. This will be a queer + trans centered class and space. This means that everyone is welcome, no matter how you identify, but queer + trans stories and voices will be front-and-center. This class will be on a sliding scale (including free!) and all proceeds from this class will be divided between Sins Invalid, the Okra Project + the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. There will be special guests including Rabbi Elliot Kukla!
There are also still two classes left in May!
One is this Sunday, May 22nd, and it’s a happens-to-be-completely-vegan meal that’s Mexican-inspired: Smoky Micheladas / Roasted Cauliflower + Red Cabbage Tacos / Arroz Verde / Homemade Mango ‘Soft Serve’ / sign up here!
And next Sunday, May 29th, I’ll be doing a Spanish-inspired meal: Kalimotxo / Kale Salad with Manchego, Almonds + Sherry Vinaigrette / Smoky Clams + Garbanzos* / Pan con Tomate / Spanish Almond Cake (which happens to be totally gluten-free!) / sign up here!
*this meal can be completely vegetarian by doing all garbanzos and for anyone who prefers fish to shellfish, I can give you notes on substituting a firm white fish for clams
Take care everyone. Hope to see you on a Sunday afternoon soon.
xo, Julia
I am keeping my fingers crossed that the chocolate espresso cake recipe becomes available somewhere, somehow, sometime soon! Looks heavenly.
