A now for a little grab bag of small moments in and around my kitchen that have brought me a lot of joy recently. Notes in the captions!
In my March 9th cooking class — an anniversary menu in honor of my parents’ 45th wedding anniversary — we made jam sundaes for dessert. Vanilla ice cream + softly whipped cream + a spoonful of jam. Just heaven!
The other night I made this quick and satisfying dinner. Sushi rice cooked in my rice cooker topped with butter, soy sauce + toasted sesame seeds. Very thinly sliced cabbage topped with hot, peppery, thinly sliced steak that I doused in this Kewpie Deep-Roasted Sesame Dressing that my BFF turned me onto (it’s DELICIOUS).
My parents were at my house on March 9th for the anniversary class and sat at my kitchen table while I taught. My mom drew this sweet illustration of her view.
For context — this is my teaching set-up (this photo is from Natalie Chitwood and was in What Goes with What!)
Not the most amazing photo in the world, but a snapshot of the deliciousssss dinner I took myself to at Yemen Cafe on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn before I went to interview Molly Yeh in celebration of her new book Sweet Farm. I rarely miss living in NYC, but that night I kinda did.
And across the street from Yemen Cafe, the refrigerated section of olives and pickles (the fridge of my dreams??) at Sahadi’s.
My parents brought us a jar of unbelievably amazing peaches. I’ve been enjoying them with cottage cheese, sometimes a few walnuts thrown in the bowl for crunch. Grace says that sometimes living with me is like living in a retirement home lol. I like what I like!
Our cat Leo has fallen in love with this gorgeous serving bowl the kind folks at Hudson Grace sent to me. I decided to leave it on our kitchen table to throw mail, etc. in since it’s so nice looking (and BIG!) and I’d rather see it everyday rather than only when we’re entertaining. I’m not sure we can ever use it for anything else now that Leo has claimed it…
The peaches + cottage cheese + walnuts is my Passover breakfast/lunch/snack on repeat! 😂
Gorgeous cat!
