Join me to make two of my absolute favorite dishes from my childhood: Jennie’s Chicken Pelau, a one pot chicken-rice-bean-and-vegetable dish taught to me by my childhood babysitter, and Summer Camp Sheet Cake, the platonic ideal of a birthday sheet cake. As always, tips, tricks, and nostalgic stories shared along the way! »»» SIGN UP HERE!!!! ««««

I love a classic, simple cocktail. I don't need any theatrics in my drink - I just want something strong, icy and very tart.
Most of my favorite drinks can be made with a simple 3-2-1 method with an emphasis on the tart element.* For me this means 3 parts the main thing (tequila for a margarita, for example), 2 parts the acidic thing (fresh line for that margarita) and 1 part something sweet (agave in the margarita). Like all things in the kitchen, taste and tweak to suit your preference. Maybe you want less tart, or more tart — once you figure out your ideal ratio, so many drinks become really easy to make.
*Note that 3-2-1 drinks often are 3 parts spirit, 2 parts sweet, 1 part tart, but I like to shake things up (literally when it comes to drinks) and prefer 2 parts tart to 1 part sweet.
I included four examples in the chart below of the 3-2-1 method that happen to be four of my favorite drinks. Each can be shaken with ice and served with that ice, strained into a chilled or served on the rocks with fresh ice: you do you.
I've suggested non-alcoholic alternatives for each cocktail since booze is not required for a great drink!
